I recently completed the 4 weekend paediatric seminar series by renowned paediatric Chiropractor Steve Williams. The course looks at the chiropractic and cranial approach to treating children. It focuses on mainly gentle, indirect cranial and fascial releases. As well as furthering my skills in tthe treatment of babies and children, I have recently been on the receiving end of chiropractic in pregnancy and babyhood. In December 2008 I gave birth to our beautiful baby daughter Kiriana (although it seems funny that she is not a baby anymore and is already a toddler!). I loved being pregnant and was very comfortable, a large part of which I feel was down to the fact that I had regular chiropractic treatment throughout my pregnancy. I only suffered from mild heartburn and tension in the diaphragm area as the baby got much bigger, near the end stage of my pregnancy. I was having weekly, even twice weekly sessions. It was great to be on the receiving end of a treatment and to feel how much relief you actually get as a patient, and to feel how gentle the techniques are.
Despite all my efforts and intentions of having a very natural birth experience, Kiriana decided it would be best to be born as close to Christmas as possible, which meant that on the 20th December, I was reluctantly booked in to be induced, as she was a fortnight overdue. Because of the nature of a labour that is induced and the fact that it was a relatively long labour, I actually ended up having a lot of pain relief (so much for my natural birth - I really feel it was Mother nature teaching me a lesson that you can't plan these things!).
At midday the next day Kiriana was born into the world. She had her first chiropractic treatment at 2 days old! She didn't have any colicky symptoms and took well to feeding. She has a check up monthly now (especially now with the odd knocks and falls that come with learning to walk!). She is a healthy, happy toddler. From the viewpoint as a mummy now, I feel truly grateful to have had chiropractic as part of our life during pregnancy and the early years!
Testimonials
Elise very much takes the time to understand individual problems and address them in the best way for the patient. I would recommend her to anyone.
